SUMMER WORKSHOP | Art deco: Model making & Fencing

Taking inspiration from the Villa Empain and the diversity of the houses surrounding it, kids will go out to discover the most beautiful architectures which they will then reproduce in large scale versions and familiarise themselves with 3D. This workshop will be the perfect opportunity for them to engage with fine materials and also to learn to build with used, obsolete objects, recycled materials, and more! After their architecture assignment, what better way to unwind than with a fencing match?
This workshop is organised in collaboration with the Université populaire d’Anderlecht.

SUMMER WORKSHOP | Roaring Twenties: Sewing & Rugby

Through the outfits of dancers and singers from that time, kids will go on a journey of discovery of the 1920s. Thanks to simple techniques, as well as the use of sewing machines, fashion and sewing will come effortlessly. You might think “but the twenties mean the Charleston” – yes, of course, but not exclusively! Kids will also discover a sport which was considerably popular at the time : rugby. The Bois de la Cambre is the perfect place to discover the intensity of a sport like this. And who knows? They might even make their own equipment!
This workshop is organised in collaboration with the Université Populaire d’Anderlecht.

SUMMER WORKSHOP | Contemporary art at the Villa Empain

Is contemporary art only for adults? We wouldn’t be so sure of that! What if we created our own exhibition? And what if we also became artists? We will discover a great exhibition at the Villa Empain from which we will draw inspiration to also create our own. Laughter, creativity, games and exploration are on the agenda. How lucky we are to be welcomed in the Villa Empain, an exceptional exhibition venue. We will travel by bus every day to the Villa from the Youth Centre where the reception and welcome will take place.

GUIDED TOUR & CREATIVE WORKSHOP | Melancholia

Activity leader Radia Yahya will bring kids on a journey of discovery of Melancholia. She will invite them to take inspiration from Abdelkader Benchamma’s piece to experiment with Indian Ink. By letting their hands move freely while thinking of a landscape and listening to melancholic music, they will draw on a large sheet which will then be turned into a folded book.

Radia Yahya studied illustration and now gives art lessons to kids, and is specialised in drawing and sculpture.

EASTER WORKSHOP | Art & sport

The Université Popular d’Anderlecht is organizing a workshop which combines both art and sport at the Villa Empain, for children aged 8 to 14. It is a unique opportunity to discover the artworks exhibited at the Villa and to experience self-transcendence in an exceptional setting!

Throughout the year, the Université Popular d’Anderlecht organises classes which provide kids with methodological tools connected to sports and art, which they can use at school and in their daily lives.

The Boghossian Foundation will take part in the 9th edition of Krokuskriebels, an initiative by Gezindsbond with the support of the Flemish Government. During the holidays, like dozens of other museums, we will be rolling out the red carpet for families.

Children will have the opportunity to discover how to play with geometric patterns during an Art Deco workshop. Throughout the week, families are also welcome to visit the Foundation and explore the Villa Empain and its temporary exhibition Ways of Seeing, with the help of fun and educational booklets for kids.

CHRISTMAS WORKSHOP | Art & fencing

The Université Popular d’Anderlecht is organizing a workshop which combines both art and sport at the Villa Empain, for children aged 8 to 14. Kids from Brussels will have the opportunity to discover fencing, which the Baron Empain greatly appreciated, as well as the artwork exhibited in the Villa. It’s a prestigious setting for a week of discoveries!

GUIDED TOUR & WORKSHOP | Chun Kwang Young

The children will be introduced to the work of Chun Kwang Young during a playful visit. An imaginary journey that will reveal the sources of inspiration of the Korean artist as well as the secrets of the Hanji paper his works are made of. The visit is followed by a creative workshop inspired by the exhibition.

Workshop for children –  Architecture and movement  

Choreographer Francesca Chiacchio, takes the children on a playful exploration, together they examine the links between architecture, body and color. The workshop begins with an analysis of the geometric shapes of the Villa, which are then transposed on paper, to conclude the workshop the geometrical partitions created by doing so are brought to life through movement.

Holiday Workshop for Teens –  Perform!

The combination of art forms in our current exhibition Répétition is the ideal setting to give youngsters the opportunity to discover various media and make their own performance, putting their inspiration from the artworks surrounding them. The course concludes with a presentation in situ, supported by a self-made soundscape.

Holiday Workshop for Children – Stop-Motion cartoon

Image, clic, image, clic, … Twenty-four images a second and a movie is born. Together with a real video-artist the children will make their own cartoon putting their inspiration out of our current exhibition. Doing so they discover the creative process behind film-making, taking part in every step of its creation. Obviously a large screen projection is part of the deal and will be held at the end of the workshop.

Interactive visit for the families – I create my exhibition

The Boghossian Foundation invites its visitors to discover artworks through several playful activities. The Professor Joëlle Petit animates a workshop that allow the visitor to create his own exhibition by imagining an original hanging as well as a new scenography. In French, Dutch and English.

Creative workshop ‘Dansaekhwa’

Artist and professor Bruno Hellenbosch and artist, stage designer and filmmaker Sanas Azari take children on a tour to discover the Dansaekhwa movement. The guided visit is followed with a creative workshop during which children are invited to draw inspiration from the works they discovered and to work with materials similar to those used by the artists exhibited.

Yoga

Marina Fernandez-Cano, yoga teacher at the Oâm Studio, proposes an initiation to the art of yoga. Through breathing and postures, children will have the opportunity to familiarize themselves with this centuries-old practice.
