Documenta14, La leçon d’Athènes
From 23 to 25 August 2017

The Boghossian Foundation is delighted to propose the discovery of the great contemporary art exhibition DOCUMENTA.

Founded by painter Arnold Bode and held every five years since the end of the Second World War, DOCUMENTA is back for it’s 14th edition. By tackling numerous and diverse issues such as cultural colonialism, gentrification, gender and migration, according to artistic director Adam Szymczyky, this edition entitled Learning from Athens aims to « establish a symmetrical rapport between two centres actively engaged in an asymmetrical relationship », referencing both Athens and Kassel.

Around 160 artists have worked either on diptychs or on replicating the same works in both cities, creating two rather independent chapters. Everyone, through performances, dance, music, sound poetry, installations and videos, evokes the chaos reigning the world today, ranging from the refugee crisis, postcolonial issues and the rise of the far-right. Resolutely anchored in the Mediterranean, this edition aims to change perspectives, shake representations, tighten bonds and examine the current crisis sweeping society, all through an artistic lens.

In addition to the program below, you will also enjoy the visit of Skulptur Projekte 2017.

Every ten years since 1977, under Kasper König’s patronage, the German medieval city of Münster transforms itself over the course of one hundred days into a sculpture park and becomes a space for exploration for contemporary artists of international standing. The 2017 edition of Skulptur Projekte Münster is entrusted to Britta Peters et Marianne Wagner, who have selected about 35 visual artists, including Thomas Schütte, Herve Youmbi, Ayşe Erkmen and Joëlle Tuerlinckx, to participate.

Christophe Dosogne of the Boghossian Foundation will take you on a discovery of the second chapter of this confrontation, as generous as it is risky, for a three-day summer cultural getaway in Germany.
