Seven months after the start of Putin’s war against Ukraine, the fighting continues and the risk of getting bogged down is growing, with significant strategic and economic consequences for the whole of Europe. What can Russians and Europeans do to restore peace on the continent? To discuss this, the Boghossian Foundation is pleased to welcome Isabelle Facon, deputy director of the Foundation for Strategic Research and specialist in Russia, in dialogue with Gaïdz Minassian.

Isabelle Facon holds a PhD from the University of Paris II – Panthéon Assas and a Diplôme d’Etudes approfondies (Slavic Studies) from the University of Paris IV-Sorbonne. She is currently Deputy Director of the Foundation for Strategic Research (FRS) in Paris. Having spent a year (1992-93) at Oxford University as a Senior Associate Member of Saint Antony’s College, she became a specialist in Russian foreign, security and defence policy. Her research interests include the transformation of the Russian military and developments in the arms industry. Since 2008, she has been a lecturer at the Ecole Polytechnique (Geopolitics of Eurasia seminar), has taught since 2003 at the Faculty of Social and Economic Sciences of the Institut Catholique de Paris in the framework of three master’s degrees, and has been a senior researcher at the FRS since 2007, where she is also the director of research. Between 2000 and 2007, she directed the Geopolitics of Russia seminar at the Collège Interarmées de Défense/Ecole de Guerre. Member of the Scientific Committee of the journal Questions internationales (La Documentation française) and of the Scientific Council of the online Journal of Power Institutions in Post-Soviet Societies, Isabelle Facon is also the author of dozens of scientific articles and strategic studies on Russia. Since 2021, she has also been the director of the Strategic Perspectives collection of the Foundation for Strategic Research at L’Harmattan. Finally, she is the author of numerous books and has also directed others, including the latest, Russia-Turkey, a challenge to the West? Passés Composés, 2022.
