SITUATION, a project proposed by Vasilis Zarifopoulos, is an attempt to synthesize the diverse field of ideas that emerge from the residency at the Boghossian Foundation. The lively results of the residents’ working practices are the subject of the show presented in the Project Space of the Villa Empain.

The spark for the exhibition is the Inhabitation concept, which invites artists, choreographers, writers, musicians to live together and exchange ideas while presenting works in the Villa itself. Using images, texts and materials contributed by past, present, and future members of the Inhabitation, SITUATION aims to create a moment of life, concretely and deliberately constructed by the collective of thinkers who came here or are to come in the future to be part of a game of events: a set of circumstances, a state of affairs. Zarifopoulos sees himself as an executor of the ideas of the residents and he is taking care of their thoughts. The impermanent nature of the residency combined with the strong memories of a place of continuous exchange of ideas gave us, among other things, time to think.

Vasilis Zarifopoulos lives and works in Athens, Greece. He studied in the University of Aegean and in Kunstakademie Düsseldorf where he received his Master from Rita McBride. Currently he is an artist in residency at the Boghossian Foundation, he is working for LIFE SPORT and he is a curator for ERGO in Athens. He has worked as an assistant for the Public Programs of Documenta 14, Kunsthalle Athena, Athens Biennale, MEΣA, Cycladic Museum and NEON projects with Whitechapel Gallery, Tino Sehgal and Marina Abramovic. He had exhibit among others in Life Sport, PAN, Shehta, TAF, Parkhaus, MACBA, Malkasten, Kunstverein Duisburg and Benaki Museum.
