Kunstenfestivaldesarts | Mårten Spångberg

Natten, The Series
26 AND 27 MAY 2017

In 2016 Mårten Spångberg premiered Natten at the Kunstenfestivaldesarts, a sevenhour-long tour de force into the darkest corners of dance. This year, the Swedish choreographer is back with a new version of his project. Natten, The Series is a ‘dance of horror’ where nothing is kicked out in favour of nothing’s nothing; an experiential black hole compressed and absolutely intangible. For Spångberg, the night is the only place where one can truly be, where one can escape the tyranny of time in a darkness that does not represent death but life, a journey into an abstract eternity and an unfathomable depth. Natten, The Series is a special version for a smaller group of female-only dancers accompanied by readings of a series of horror short stories. It is an entry into the specific currencies of the female night. A night during which the weave is undone and boundaries dissolved, where the opacity of darkness also becomes a hiding place for fleeting forms of friendship, whispers and intimacy. The event is episodic and can be entered every hour, but for those who endure, a dark light will shine for the entire seven hours.
